Vasantabalan promises variety

Vasantabalan promises variety ‘Kaavia Thalaivan is a tribute to Tamil theatre and is a commercial entertainer that will woo the masses’, says filmmaker Vasantabalan, the man who made films like Angadi Theru, Veyyil and Aravan.

Says Vasantabalan, ‘Thanks to Jeyamohan, the seeds were sown to come up with Kaavia Thalaivan. He narrated me various incidents about the camaraderie shared between artistes in various stage plays then. Their joys and sorrows. It created an urge in me to do a movie about them’.

On choosing Siddharth for the lead role, he says, ‘He is an intense performer. He appears in nearly 42 different looks (or get-ups, as its known in tinsel town) in the movie. Everything sits well on him. Equally impressive was Prithviraj’.

The movie has been censored and given clean U certificate. He says, ‘We are planning a grand road show as a prelude to the movie’s release on 14 November’.

According to him, ‘the biggest challenge was erecting the sets for interiors of a stage where the dramas were staged in those days., We have no reference to come up with one. Our hard work will be visible in every frame’.
