Veteran filmmaker P Vasu’s assistant Moorthy Kannan make his foray as an independent filmmaker with a movie titled Saalaiyoram. It stars newcomers Raj and Serena in the lead roles. Actor-director Pandiarajan and Singam Puli don key roles.
Saalaiyoram is all set for a release on 26 June. An elated Moorthy Kannan, says, ‘It is a movie with a strong social message. But it is a commercial entertainer. There are enough lements in it to attract youngsters’.
‘Romance is the crux of Salaiyoram. The love between a civic worker who clears garbage and a college girl has been narrated in a gripping manner’, he says and adds, ‘the lives and travails of civic workers are captured well’.
The director had visited places where these men work and observed them at close quarters. It inspired him to come up with Saalaiyoram.
‘We shot a few scenes at a dumping yard in Athipattu. People fear to go inside the dumping yard fearing the nauseating smell. But we managed to shoot there. The scenes have come good, he adds.
‘The entire movie was shot in just 45 days. I also thank my artistes besides music composer Sethuram, a resident of Singapore and cinematographer Dinesh Srinivas,’ he says.
The fact that my mentor P Vasu watched the film and appreciated my efforts is a big boost for me, he says.
