Maestro rocks Toronto.

Engeyum Eppothum, the musical concert by Ilayaraja went on interestingly as planned on February 16th 2013 in Toronto, Canada. With an estimated 25,000 in presence Maestro Ilayaraja made his Canadian debut in a true celebration of Tamil music.

The show started with a rich musical interlude, after which Karthik performed and earned the cheers from his female fans. Then legends lined up – Hariharan, S.P. Balasubramaniam and Chitra all dressed in white and singing perhaps their most popular solo songs of Illayaraja hits.

The musical shows interesting parts were Gobinath of Vijay TV and Actor cum Director cum Poet Parthibans clever wordplay and honest Illaiyaraja stories. Sadhana Sargam, NSK Ramya, Madhu Balakrishnan and some more talented backup vocalists continued the performances. However, Yuvan Shankar Raja did not appear on stage till past halfway through the show, but his late appearance and performances still got the crowd moving through the night. And despite being advertised, singers KJ Yesudas, Mano, Vijay Yesudas, Shwetha Mohan and Haricharan were noticeably absent, including director Gautham Menon.

The crowd was satisfied with the excellent performance of Hariharan, SPB and Chitra. The show was nearly 5 hours of nonstop performance by Ilayaraja and it ended with a slight rewrite to one of his famous tunes to praise all those Tamil fans who have crossed 7 seas in this life to make a home for themselves in Canada. Overall the show was enjoyed by true fans over Canada and was a great success.
