Various trade bodies of Tamil cinema resorted to a strike today and held a day-long token fast here condemning the high-handedness of UFO and Qube makers.
Members of various trade bodies of Tamil cinema including Tamil Film Producers Council, South India Film Artistes Association, FEFSI, Tamil Film Directors Association and who’s who of the filmdom participated in the protest.
Kalaipuli S Dhanu, president of Tamil Film Producers Council, said that these days movies are being screened in all theatres in Qube and UFO formats. Those in the business are allegedly charging much and taking away the lion’s share of profits from the pockets of producers.
Dhanu said, ‘UFO and Qube makers take exorbitant charges from producers and without the consent of producers attach advertisements in cinema halls and make money.’
President of Nadigar Sangam Sarathkumar, TFPC office-bearers T Shiva, Kathiresan, actors including Vivek among others spoke.
Veteran filmmaker Muktha Srinivasan, who was admitted to a hospital managed to make it to the venue to express his support for the protest.
