Kerala govt to pay Thilakan's hospital bill

Kerala Health Minister V S Sivakumar said on Sunday that the government will take care of the medical bills of veteran Malayalam actor Thilakan, 74, who in a critical condition after suffering two heart attacks.

Thilakan continues to be in a critical state. The thespian, who suffered a cardiac arrest on August 22, is unconscious and only slightly responding to medicines.

‘I met the doctors and they have told me that he continues to be on ventilator but his overall health condition has shown a slight improvement, but still he is not out of danger,’ said Sivakumar.

‘Thilakan underwent a cardiac arrest around four days back, and was admitted immediately to the Sri Uthradam Thirunal Hospital immediately. Later he was shifted to the KIMS hospital but the doctors say that the brain cells have undergone damage and thus, even if he recovers, he will be in a state of paralysis,’ said Dinesh Shantivila, a close associate of Thilakan.
