Kamala Theatre owner Chidambaram passes away

V N Chidamabaram (76), owner of Kamala Cinemas in Vadapalani in Chennai passed away in Madurai due to ill-health at a private hospital this morning. He is survived by three sons. Chidambaram was married to Kamala and hence named the theatre after her.

The theatre is a important landmark in the Kollywood capital of Tamil cinema. A close associate of many film personalities, he shared an excellent rapport with thespian Sivaji Ganesan. A former Thakkar of Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple, he contributed a lot for the welfare of the Tamil film industry. He will be cremated at his native village Rangiyam in Pudukottai district tomorrow.
