Film Industry on Fast

Film industry The Special Court’s verdict in asset case against AIADMK supremo J Jayalithaa Saturday last has trigered protests, fasts and demonstrations across Tamilnadu by people from various walks of lives to express their solidarity (to Jayalalithaa).

The Tamil film fraternity this morning began a silent fast at Chepauk to express their misgivings over the verdict. Members of various trade bodies of Tamil cinema have gathered in large numbers and are sitting in fast till 5 pm today.

According to film producer T Shiva, ‘we have gathered here to express our anguish and agony. It is an occasion to recall her services to filmdom. We stand behind her on this occasion. The industry is confident that she will break all shackles and return victorious’. All shootings have been cancelled for the day and the morning and matinee shows are suspended in all theatres across the State.

A grand stage was erected in which members of film fraternity in black shirts observed fast. Those who attended the protest include actors Sarath Kumar, Vijaya Kumar, Mansoor Ali Khan, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Sathyaraj, Karthi, Vikram , Vimal, Sibiraj, Anandraj, Nizhalgal Ravi, Mayilsamy, filmmakers R K Selvamani, Vikraman, P Vasu, Sakthi Chidambaram, K Bhagyaraj, R V Udhayakumar, music composer Shankar Ganesh, Deva, actresses Venniradai Nirmala, Kuyili, Fathima Babu among others.
