Filmmaker Bharathiraja has shot a letter to Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi that inviting Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for his swearing-in ceremony has saddened many of us. At a time when he is all set to face enquiry from international agencies for war crimes, it is sad that you have invited him for the country, he said. Tamilnadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who has 37 seats in Parliament, DMK chief M Karunanidhi, Vaiko, Dr Ramadoss have opposition to Rajapaksa. Even Vaiko has announced that he would stage a protest in New Delhi, he added. Rajapaksa taking part in the ceremony is against Tamilnadu government’s resolution in the State Assembly. The cover up to invite him by the BJP has brought all to come together to the streets, Bharathiraja said. Hence the government should ensure that the visit of Rajapaksa be cancelled for the good of all, he added.
