Amitabh to attend CIFF

The 10th Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF), organised by Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (IACF), with the support of government of Tamilnadu and film fraternity, wil be held from 13 to 20 December. The valedictory function of the event will be presided over by Amitabh Bachchan.

Over 160 films from more than 57 countries will be screened as part of the festival in Woodlands, Woodlands Symphony, Inox (two screens), Sathyam (two Screens), Rani Seethai Hall and Casino. Speaking about the event, Thangaraj, director of the CIFF, said, the event has grown big year after year. This time around we have more numbers of movies to be screened. The participation would be more’.

In World Cinema Section, the best of cinema made in the past 12 months will be screened which includes award winning and acclaimed films like Amour by Michael Haneka that won 2012 Cannes Palme DOr (Golden Palme) award.
In the Indian Panorama section will feature films like Kurmavatara by Girish Kasavaravalli, Baandhon (Assam) by Johnu Barua and Bhoomiyudhae Avakashikal (Malayalam) by T V Chandran

As part of the 100 year of Indian Cinema, Chandralekha (Tamil), Mega Sandhesham (Telugu), Pather Panchali (Bengal), Guide (Hindi), Dweepa ( Kannada) and Vasthuhara or Thampu (Malayalam) will be screened.
Many filmmakers are expected to attend the event from abroad.

Suhasini Maniratnam, convenor, CIFF and Kannan, president, ICAF also spoke on the occasion.
